Malden was incorporated as a town in 1649. With its rich history, Malden has the distinction of being reputed to be the first town to petition the colonial government to withdraw from the British Empire. Malden is home to Bell Rock Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and home to Bell Rock cemetery containing graves that date back to the 1670’s. Today, the town houses over 56,000 people in over 23,000 households on 5.1 square miles of land.
Malden’s neighborhoods are defined by the “squares” they surround. Squares such as Linden, Maplewood, Bellrock, Oak Grove, Judson and Suffolk and Malden, identify areas of the town.
Lover’s of green space will enjoy any of Malden’s 30 parks or the 56 acres of Middlesex Fells Reservation or the 25 acres of Fellsmere Pond.
The MBTA provides access to Boston from Malden on the Orange Line at Malden Center or Oak Grove stations. Highway access to Route 28, Route 60, Route 99, Route 1 and Route 93 make Malden an easily accessible community from just about any direction.
